Michael Jordan scored a ton of points in isolation situations during his NBA career, and there's no question that he was one of the best 1-on-1 players ever. However, in his time with the Bulls the old illegal defense rules definitely helped him a lot in those situations. After 2001, those rules were eliminated and zone was allowed, which greatly reduced the effectiveness of isolation players in the modern era. Credit to Alex Groz for uploading the full game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8xpQ1cj-1U Jordan + Pippen shut down Penny Hardaway to 18 points on 8/24 (33%) shooting, with 3 ast to 3 turnovers. Penny scored on Pippen a few times, but had 0 pts, 0 assists, 0/3 FG + 1 turnover against Jordan
Hardaway had a huge game of 30 points on 12/19, but only scored one 3-pointer on Jordan off a give-and-go. There were two more times the Heat screened Jordan for Hardaway to drive past Rodman and score over Pippen. Hardaway rarely got a shot off when he was guarded by Jordan. After getting trade to the 1996 Heat, Hardaway averaged 17-10 on 43% in 28 games with the Heat, and the Heat were 17-11 in those games which would be 50-32 in a full season.
Vince started off hot, dropping 19 in the first quarter. But then Jordan figured out Vince, and held him to 0 points and 4 total shot attempts in the 2nd half. His off-ball D was a huge part of limiting Vince's opportunities In 2001/02, Vince averaged 25.8 ppg on 43% through 48 games before an injury against the Spurs, and had averaged 30-6-6-2-2 on 47% against the Sixers Top 5 Defense in the 2001 ECSF.

Michael Jordan shuts down Reggie Miller in Game 7 of the 1998 ECF. Credit to Alex Groz for uploading the full game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yprilvx4AM Reggie had a good game through 3 quarters, but even in those 3 quarters he never had success against Jordan other than one 3-pointer and a fastbreak layup. Reggie was getting wide-open shots against the other Bulls defenders, but he rarely even got a shot off, and sometimes couldn't even get the ball in the first place, when he was guarded by Jordan.
N° 04/05 - Whether it's one pass away or two passes away to your man, you must always maintain visual contact with your man and the ball. If the offensive player attacks, then you react by step-sliding towards them and still maintain vision of your man.

In 1986, MJ was only 23 years old coming off an shortened season due to a broken foot, but also his now iconic 63 points playoff performance in Boston Garden. While preparing to watch those same Celtics and the Houston Rockets square off in the Finals, he also stopped by David Letterman's then-NBC show for this hilarious and vintage interview. MJ, in his finest '80s gear, donned a shiny suit which would even make a 1997 Puffy envious and showcased a still humble, yet engaging personality. Endorsements were not foreign during this era in sports, but even the normally witty Letterman was taken by surprise with Mike's laundry list at such a young age. Sneakerheads will shed tattoo tears of joy over the discussion of the first two Air Jordan prototypes and even raise eyebrows over Jordan's di...

NBA legend Michael Jordan talks during an interview about the UNC/Duke rivalry and what it means to him. Talks about Kemba Walker and the hard work he puts in everyday and his involvement with All Star weekend.
"The history book inspires them to be some of the best," said Jordan. "Rules have changed to help them. I could have averaged 50 points today!" Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks was asked about the handchecking rule during the summer of 2010: "It benefits me," said Joe Johnson, one of three players (Mike Bibby and Jamal Crawford are the others) on the Hawks' roster who have averaged 20 or more points in a season. "It definitely changes the game because it gives every guy that extra step. "If we could hand check now, the game would be totally different," Johnson said. "If they couldn't hand check back in the day, there are some guys that would have been even better than they were. It would have been nuts for some of the big-time scorers and perimeter players from the 1980s and 1990s. Ca...

LeBron had a great offensive series, but also a very poor defensive series in the 2017 Finals. Most of it was Durant lighting up LeBron, but he also made mistakes when off of Durant. Once again, the notion that LeBron can effectively guard 4 or 5 positions was proven to be a myth, as he had far too many problems trying to guard his own position, let alone 4 or 5. Durant, 2017 season 25-8-5 on 54/38/88 Durant, 2017 Rounds 1-3 25-8-4 on 56/42/87 Durant, 2017 Finals 35-8-5 on 56/47/93 What makes Durant's exposure of LeBron's defense so incredible is not just the +10 PPG increase in volume, but the slight increase in efficiency while doing so. It's hard enough to simply maintain efficiency at a much higher +10 PPG volume, let alone slightly improve it. Durant became the only player to sh...
